New Sensory and Biodiversity Garden

Our new sensory garden is an interactive space which can be accessed by all the children in the school.  It has been designed with the purpose of stimulating the five senses. This stimulation occurs courtesy of plants and herbs in addition to the use of other resources such as musical panels and textured surfaces. With the inclusion of two bug hotels, several bird houses as well as a plantation of wildflowers, we have also tried to encourage biodiversity and create a wildlife-friendly habitat. The outdoor classroom will also allow classes to explore learning opportunities in an invigorating outdoor environment.

Our intention was to create a colourful, inspiring space which would be engaging for all the pupils at Scoil Naomh Barra. We have no doubt that all our students will have fond memories of the time they spend there. We are extremely grateful to John McCabe and his team from JMc Paving and Landscaping for all their hard work in helping us to achieve our vision. A big thank-you must also go to Richie McKenna as well as the children of 5th class and their parents for constructing some beautiful bird houses.  Please click play on the video below to take a virtual tour of the garden together with our fantastic playground facilities.
